Review the website journey from first visit to first reply

Visitors experience a website as a sequence of decisions, not a collection of separately approved pages. An enquiry journey review follows that sequence through to the receiving team. It helps reveal problems that remain invisible when each page is checked on its own.

Choose a specific visitor scenario

Write a short fictional situation with a goal and a reasonable level of knowledge. For example, a small agency needs recurring design support but has no final task list. Define where the visitor arrives, what they need to understand and what action would reasonably follow.

Use different scenarios for meaningfully different services or languages. Do not ask a reviewer to “explore the site” without a task; unstructured browsing can miss the questions that matter during an actual purchase decision.

Observe the path without coaching

Ask a colleague unfamiliar with the page to complete the task and describe what they expect at each step. Record where they hesitate, what they misunderstand and which information they cannot find. Avoid correcting them immediately, since the explanation may hide the very problem the review is meant to uncover.

Test one ordinary route thoroughly before adding unusual cases. Then include a different language, a phone and a visitor who needs to correct an entry.

  • Can the visitor identify the relevant service?
  • Do they understand what to share in the enquiry?
  • Is the chosen contact route usable on their device?
  • Does the confirmation explain the next step accurately?

Follow the handover to a real response

Submit a clearly labelled test enquiry and confirm where it arrives. Ask the handling colleague to draft the reply they would send, without actually contacting an external person. Compare the reply with what the website led the visitor to expect.

A typical gap is a page promising a detailed quotation while the team first needs a discovery conversation. Fix the wording or the process so they agree. Assign each issue an owner, repeat the affected journey after changes and keep the evidence concise enough to reuse during future reviews.

Take it into your working day

Review the complete conversation pathway, including the internal handover. A smooth first visit only helps when the next step is equally clear and reliable.
