Organise a Creative Review That Ends With Decisions

A creative review can produce many opinions without moving the work forward. The meeting becomes more useful when everyone knows what is being reviewed and which decisions are possible at this stage. Review structure matters as much as the number of people invited.

Send the context before the meeting

Share the brief, the current draft and a short explanation of what has changed. State whether the review concerns direction, detailed execution or final checking. Ask participants to read the material beforehand and bring comments against the brief. If the concept is still open, do not spend the whole discussion on punctuation that can be corrected later.

Give each reviewer a useful role

Invite people who can assess the business message, factual accuracy or practical use of the material. Name one facilitator and one final decision maker. Start by explaining the design’s intended purpose, then hear concerns before proposing solutions. This helps distinguish a genuine communication problem from a preference that may not improve the work.

Close with a written revision plan

An illustrative outcome might be: keep the overall direction, simplify the opening headline, replace an unapproved photograph and check the mobile crop. Record each action with an owner and a due date. Mark questions that still need evidence rather than forcing an immediate answer. Circulate the decision note so people who missed the meeting do not reopen settled points accidentally.

  • Confirm the stage and the decisions required.
  • Keep comments attached to specific pages or elements.
  • Separate approved work from unresolved questions.
  • Agree when the revised version will be reviewed.

Take it into your working day

A review is complete when the team knows what stays, what changes and who will make the next decision.
